First Generation


1. Cushing Stewart was born on 26 August 1795 in Fox Island, Maine, USA. Reportedly born at Fox Island of Scottish parents (Per: Charles Stewart). He served in the military in War of 1812. He died on 8 May 1837 at the age of 41 in Rockland, Knox County, Maine, USA. Died aboard a vessel in Rockland harbor. Came from North Haven to Swan's Island in 1822, and settled at the North. He had lived at Mt. Desert several years.

Cushing Stewart and Nancy Ann Robinson were married on 27 February 1816 in Mount Desert Island, Maine, USA. Nancy Ann Robinson, daughter of John Robinson and Sarah Pray, was born on 4 August 1796 in Mount Desert Island, Maine, USA. She died on 15 May 1880 at the age of 83 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She. An oft repeated story in the Rowe family is of Nancy Ann Robinson-Stewart-Lane [1796-1880].  Her husband, it is not sure which, Cushing Stewart  [1795-1837] or Abel Lane [c1804 – c1874], sailed to Boston and on return to Swan’s Island was queried by Nancy as to what he had seen or done.  She said “I know you danced with a lady in black”.  He did not deny, but asked how she knew.  Her reply, “I was that lady, I flew to Boston in my eggshell and danced with you”. Following death of second husband in Brooklin, she returned to Swan's Island to live with her daughter.
