Minturn: Vernard C. Stinson, 54, died Dec. 5, 1985, at Minturn. He was born in Minturn, Sept. 27, 1931, the son of Cecil and Marjorie (Turner) Stinson. He is survived by his mother and his beloved wife, Phyllis (Temple) Stinson of Minturn; two daughters, Priscilla S. Allen of Sedgwick and Rennee S. Allen of Surry; one grandson, Patrick Allen of Sedgwick; three aunts, two uncles. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Monday Dec. 9, at the Advent Christian Church, Minturn, with the Rev. Winslow Hall officiating. Friends and family are invited to call at the church 10 a.m. until noon on Monday. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Atlantic. Vernard Cecil Stinson and Phyllis Winifred Temple were married on 27 September 1950 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA.3 Phyllis Winifred Temple, daughter of Cecil W. Temple and Enna Laird, was born on 2 July 1927 in Rutland, Rutland County, Vermont, USA. She died on 2 March 2009 at the age of 81 in Blue Hill, Hancock County, Maine, USA. SWANS ISLAND (March 4): Phyllis Temple Stinson, 81, of Blue Hill and formerly of Swans Island, passed away March 2, 2009 at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. Phyllis was born in Rutland, VT, July 2, 1927 to Enna Laird Temple and Rev. Cecil W. Temple.
Her family moved to Swans Island in 1944 where her father was a summer pastor at the Advent Christian Church. Her parents eventually moved back to Vermont but Phyllis stayed. She had met and fallen in love with a local fisherman, Vernard C. Stinson. A few years later they were married. During her years on the island, Phyllis had many careers. She was a teacher, a manager of the Swans Island Electric Co-op, a restaurant owner, a bookkeeper for the Swans Island Fisherman's Co-op and even a sternman for her husband. She was also very involved with the Advent Christian Church and its WH&FM Missions Society. But most of all she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Phyllis will be sadly missed by her two daughters and their families, Priscilla Allen and husband Clarence, their children Patrick, Nathaniel and Jessica of Sedgwick, Renee' Allen and husband Frederick (Rick) and their son Erick of Surry. She will also be missed by her â€œadoptedâ€ son Harry Smith of Blue Hill, several special cousins in Vermont, other family members and many friends.
A graveside service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Phyllis' name may be made to Advent Christian Village, PO Box 4305, Dowling Park, FL 32064.
She was buried on 2 May 2009 in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic.
