Descendants of Swan's Island's Hardy Lane

This summary has been derived from information in Dr. H. W. Small's 'History of Swan's Island' published in 1898.
Hardy Lane came to Swan's Island from Deer Isle about 1835. He was the son of Oliver Lane, Sr. and born in 1820. He and his brother Oliver bought Harbor Island of Silas Hardy. His wife was Lovinia Stinson, by whom he had 9 children. Mr. Lane returned to Deer Isle in 1861. Mr. Lane was a candidate for representative to the legislature at Deer Isle in 1873. He received 54 votes to 111 for William Babbidge. He died in 1886 aged 66 years.
