669. Sheldon Herbert Carlson was born on 9 May 1926 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. Delivered by Dr. F. J. Murphy. He served in the military in 1944 in World War II, US Army. He died on 26 March 2009 at the age of 82 in Bar Harbor Hospital, Maine, USA. SWANS ISLAND - Sheldon Herbert Carlson, 82, died March 26, 2009, at Mount Desert Island Hospital. He was born May 9, 1926, on Swans Island, the son of Axel and Bernice (Turner) Carlson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. Sheldon was a dockworker in his early years, then he worked in road construction and was a local fisherman. He was a deacon in the Advent Christian Church for many years, a lifetime member of the American Legion, served on the school board and was vice president of the Maine Lobster Association. Sheldon is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Elizabeth (Heming) Carlson; one son, Donald Carlson of Swans Island; one daughter, Anna Carr and her husband, Dennis, of Northeast Harbor; four grandchildren, Thomas Carr, Hilary Lisee, Scott Carlson and Chris Carlson; and eight great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Hannah, Paige, Elisabeth, Grace, Axel, Eric and Stanley. He was predeceased by a son, David. Friends are invited to call 10 a.m.-noon March 30 at Atlantic Baptist Church, Swans Island, where funeral services will be held noon with Pastor Kenneth Dutille Jr. and Pastor Benjamin Redman officiating. Sheldon Herbert Carlson and Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Hemming were married on 14 November 1949 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Hemming, daughter of Thomas D. Hemming and Jane Elizabeth Stanley, was born on 21 November 1928 in Mont Coal, West Virginia, USA. She died on 29 July 2011 at the age of 82 in Ellsworth, Hancock County, Maine, USA. SWANS ISLAND - Elizabeth"Betty" J. Carlson, 82, died July 29, 2011,at a local health care facility. She was born Nov. 21, 1928, in Montcoal, W. Va., the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Stanley) Heming. Betty was a loyal Red Sox fan and an avid knitter. She was the postmaster of Minturn Post Office for 20 years, a member of Hockamock Players, chairman of Swans Island Educational Society board of trustees and a member of Advent Christian Church, Swans Island, where she was the organist for 60 years. Betty is survived by her son, Donald Carlson of Swans Island; a daughter, Anna Carr and husband, Dennis, of Northeast Harbor; five grandchildren,Thomas and Jonathan Carr, Hilary Lisee, Scott and Christopher Carlson; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Sheldon;and a son, David. Friends may call 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Aug. 5, at Swans Island Elementary School, Swans Island, where a funeral service will be held noon with the Rev. Kenneth Dutille and the Rev. Benjamin Redman officiating. Interment will be afterward at Rose Hill Cemetery, Swans Island.
