Manset; Clarence E; Smith, 56, died at his home Monday after a long illness.
He was born at Swan's Island, Oct. 21, 1910, the son of Clarence L. and Alice E. (Robinson) Smith.
Smith had been a retail grocer here for many years. He was a member of the Swan's Island Methodist Church; Rebekahs, past noble grand of Pemetic Lodge of Odd Fellows, both of Southwest Harbor and Mt. Desert Encampment of Bar Harbor.
Survivors include his wife, Robena (Beal) Smith of here; one son, Clarence J. of Southwest Harbor; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ethyl Warren of Vinalhaven; one aunt and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Fernald Funeral Chapel in Mt. Desert with the Rev. Bradford Payne of the Mt. Desert Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Heights Cemetery, Southwest Harbor.
Friends may call at the funeral chapel Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. Clarence was buried in Mt. Height cemetery, Southwest Harbor.

Clarence E. Smith and Robena R. Beal were married on 1 June 1941. Robena R. Beal, daughter of Vinal O. Beal and Nettie E. Alley, was born on 24 October 1911. She died on 17 January 1998 at the age of 86. She was buried in Mt. Height cemetery, Southwest Harbor.
