Beverly Dunham and Lloyd F. Capen were married. Lloyd F. Capen, son of Roland Capen and Dorothy Marshall, was born on 30 April 1925 in Deer Isle, Hancock County, Maine, USA. He was educated in 1943 in McKinley High School, Deer Isle. He died on 23 March 2008 at the age of 82 in Deer Isle, Hancock County, Maine, USA. DEER ISLE - Lloyd F. Capen, 82, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Island Nursing Home. He was born April 30, 1925, in Deer Isle, the son of the late Roland and Dorothy (Marshall) Capen. He graduated from McKinley High School, June 1943, and was drafted into the Army that August. During World War II, he served as a recon scout in the 14th Infantry in France and Germany. After his discharge, he attended the University of Maine eventually getting his master's degree. He taught school in Maine, Connecticut and New Hampshire, and served many years as principal of the elementary school, Essex, Mass. He retired from teaching to Deer Isle, where he and Marjorie had a home built. This was known as High Meadow Farm. They had a variety of fruit trees, mainly apple. He enjoyed hosting groups of school children that came to watch the making of cider and then offering a treat of the juice and cookies. He was chairman of the fundraising committee for the Island Nursing Home and volunteered for many weeks to reach its set goal. He was on the advisory committee for the new Deer Isle-Stonington School. He loved volunteering at the Chamber of Commerce Center. Lloyd loved people and was a wonderful conversationalist and was always eager to make new acquaintances. He was an avid reader and always had a book at hand. He especially enjoyed history. During retirement he found time to write a book, "The Price of Clams." Its purpose was to preserve the memory of how life was on Deer Isle from 1930 to 1943. He was a valued member of Sunset Congregational Church serving in many roles. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marjorie (McCreery) Capen; his daughter, Nannetta Walton and husband, Larson, of Ada, Okla.; a son, John Capen and his wife, Susie, of Woodbridge, Va.; a sister, Priscilla Haskell and husband, Milton, of Deer Isle; four half sisters, Emma Holt of Hampden, Arlene Lizott of Sun City, Calif., Rolann Poulin of Sun City, Fla., and Nancy Lindgran of Jay; stepchildren, Patricia Field of Greene, Stephen Weith of Deer Isle, Kenneth Weith of Bethel, Conn., and Peter Weith of Burlington, Vt.; grandson, Chester of Stinson, Texas; stepgrandchildren, Caitlin and Brendon Lee, Cheryl Field, Christopher Field and wife, Emily, Tyler and Jordan Weith; some nieces, nephews and cousins. He leaves a dear friend, Charlie Smith. He was predeceased by a half brother, John Capen; and a half sister, Jeanette Menard. At Lloyd's request, services will be private.
