Louise McGrath, was born on 24 September 1938 in Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA. He served in the military in U. S. Army. SWANS ISLAND - Daniel "Dan" H. Barnes, 67, died March 15, 2006, on Swans Island. He was born Sept. 24, 1938, in Gloucester, Mass., the son of Lemuel H. and H. Louise (McGrath) Barnes. He was in the U.S. Army. Dan served as an ambulance attendant and fire chief on Swans Island for more than 12 years. He was a proud and dedicated fire chief. Dan worked as a stone mason and caretaker for many years. He also was a great supporter of Alcoholic Anonymous and organized the Alcoholic Anonymous Group on Swans Island. He was past president of the Swans Island Electric Co-Op and a member of the IOOF Hancock Lodge No. 150. Dan was Santa Claus at the grammar school for several years and he loved all the kids and their activities. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Dorothy, to the games. He is survived by his beloved wife of 12 years, Dorothy L. (Stinson) Barnes; two brothers, Robert Hardy of Malden, Mass., and Donald Barnes of Gloucester, Mass.; three sisters, Barbara Agostini of Gloucester, Mass., Carol Martell of Epping, N.H., and Marjorie Carlson of Port Charlotte, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Torrey of Franklin, Pauline Stinson of Kennesaw, Ga., and Marion Stinson of Swans Island; many nieces and nephews and his community family. Dan was predeceased by his parents and four brothers and four sisters. Friends are invited to call 9 a.m. to the time of the service. Funeral services will be held noon, Monday, March 20, at the Swans Island Grammar School Gymnasium, with the Rev. Ken Dutille officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Atlantic.
