Swan's Island: Mrs. Jeannie (Martin) Burns, 79, of Swan's Island, died June 18, at an Ellsworth hospital following a long illness. She was born Oct. 13, 1895, at Vinalhaven, the daughter of William and Hattie Martin. She was a member of the Swan's Island Rebekah Lodge and is survived four daughters, Mrs. Mary Staples and Mrs. Marguerite Batcheler, both of Swan's Island, Mrs. Helene Billings and Mrs. Charlene Carter, both of Stonington; four sons, Norman and Russell, both of Swan's Island, Wilson of Minturn and Charlie, Jr. of Portland; five sisters, Mrs. Bessie Scott of Thomaston, Mrs. Mary Tinker of Rockland, Mrs. Rosie Staples of Atlantic, Mrs. Evelyn Johnson of Minturn and Mrs. Addie Burgess of Stonington; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Swan's Island Methodist Church with the Rev. Chet Betts officiating. Burial will be in Grindle Hill Cemetery. She was buried on 21 June 1975 in Grindle Hill cemetery, Swan's Island.
