VINALHAVEN - Francis “Buster” Martin, 44, died Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor after an extended illness. Born at Vinalhaven, October 8, 1958, he was the son of Herbert V. and Viva Anthony Martin. He attended Vinalhaven schools. Buster fished out of Round Pond and Vinalhaven aboard “What’s Left” with Captain Dicky Hildings. He was happiest when on the water and enjoyed taking his nephews to haul. He was a member of the Vinalhaven Volunteer Fire Department, Vinalhaven Fisherman’s Co-Op and Vinalhaven Rod & Gun Club. Buster’s family stated that he was always ready with a joke, loved being with his family, spending time with his nephews, bowling, hunting and working on his truck. He would do anything for anybody, they said. This past weekend he enjoyed participating in a family Christmas gathering. Pre-deceased by a brother, Dallas “Buckshot” Martin in 1990, Buster is survived by his parents of Rockland; a nephew whom he considered a son and resided with, Dallas M. Martin, Jr. of Vinalhaven; two daughters, Jessica M. Martin of Vinalhaven, Holly A. Martin of Vinalhaven and Warren; two brothers, Joseph “Jody” Martin, Sr. and his wife Francene of Gloucester, MA, Harold V. Martin and his companion Chris Ross of Worcester, MA; one sister, Sylvia “Sister” Campbell and her husband Donald, Sr. of Rockport; 20 nieces and nephews; three great nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Visiting hours will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 22, at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28th at the Union Church, Vinalhaven. Elder Robert Candage and Reverend Michelle Wiley-Arey will officiate. Interment will follow in Browns Head Cemetery, with a reception to follow. A memorial service with the fishing fleet will be announced in the summer of 2003.
